Tory Lanez, a Canadian rapper and singer, released his sixth studio album, titled Alone at Prom, on December 1, 2021. Different from his earlier hip-hop and R&B work, this album delves into 1980s synth-pop and new wave. The album’s main single “The Color Violet” reached the top 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album totals 11 tracks.
Critics were divided on the album, with some applauding Lanez’s willingness to try new things and experiment, while others panned his singing, lyrics, and production. Not only did the album cause a stir, but in July 2020, Lanez was charged with three felonies for allegedly shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
Despite entering a not guilty plea, Lanez was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in jail in August 2023. Despite his legal issues, Lanez has promised to drop a deluxe version of Alone at Prom with brand new tracks and guest appearances.
Lanez has been teasing and delaying the release of the deluxe edition for months, so its exact release date is unknown. The release date, track listing, and special features for the Alone at Prom deluxe edition have all been detailed below.
When Will Alone at Prom Deluxe Be Released?
Neither Lanez nor his label, One Umbrella Records, have announced when the deluxe edition of Alone at the Prom will be made available to the public. However, if the leaks and speculations are to be believed, the deluxe edition will be available on the market on November 17, 2023.
On November 16, 2023, Lanez announced the release date by uploading a trailer for the deluxe edition to his Instagram. Samples of several of the new songs were included in the trailer, and a voiceover from Lanez added,
“Hey, how are y’all doing? Tory Lanez is the man with the jheri curl, also known as Ashton Rain. I know you’ve all been waiting for this premium edition for a while, and for that I am truly grateful. I apologize for the holdup, but please be patient. I’ve got some killer tracks and interviews for you, and you won’t want to miss them. Tomorrow, November 17, the deluxe version will be released, so get ready. A film is in the works. Peace.”
This date is not set in stone, however, since Lanez has announced and delayed the deluxe edition on multiple occasions in the past. It was reported in January 2022 that Lanez, who used the alias Ashton Rain for his Alone at Prom record, was finished with that phase of his career and would be returning to the project for a deluxe edition.
In September 2023, Lanez recorded a voice message from jail announcing that the album’s deluxe edition was complete but that he needed the conclusion of his legal battle before it could receive adequate promotion on radio and in stores. The deluxe edition, which Lanez promised will be released on Halloween of 2023, never materialized.
Fans should therefore treat the November 17 release date as tentative, as it could be moved or scrapped at any point. However, it appears that this time Lanez means business as he has already released a teaser and a tracklist for the deluxe edition.
