Detective Hays concludes that Julie Purcell may have faked her death and rebuilt a new life for herself at the end of Season 3. Season 4 may feature a similarly complex story that spans decades and revolves around a troubled detective, as it has in previous seasons. It’s possible that if Pizzolatto returns to the show, we’ll see some characters and plotlines continue from previous seasons as well.

True Detective Season 4 may premiere in late 2023 or early-2024 if pre-production, production and post-production don’t take more than two years and 18 months.
