The Rookie, a show on ABC that debuted in October 2018 and is becoming a fan favorite, combines action, intrigue, and police work. Nathan Fillion reprised his role as rookie police officer John Nolan, while series creator Alexi Hawley also returned to work on the show.
Fillion and Hawley have worked together before on Castle, with Hawley serving as producer and writer and Fillion playing the title role of Richard Castle. The Rookie follows the exploits of an LAPD squad in a mystery setting reminiscent of Castle. John Nolan, the protagonist, makes the decision to become the LAPD’s oldest rookie cop while he’s in his forties.
Despite being written off as someone experiencing a midlife crisis, Nolan goes on to prove his dedication to the LAPD, earning the respect of his superiors and the admiration of his peers. After a fifth season full of unexpected turns, exciting adventures, and budding romance, the sixth season was officially confirmed in April of 2023.
The new season of The Rookie will neither begin in September like previous ones, nor will it have the typical number of episodes (20). The release of Season 6 will be delayed, and there will be fewer episodes than usual. The remaining information about the next season is listed below.

Season 6 was supposed to start filming in the summer of 2023, however owing to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production was delayed. Season 6 of The Rookie will not premiere as soon as fans had hoped. Fans were also speculating if the delay could be owing to Fillion’s schedule and his involvement with James Gunn’s movie.
But it has been established that this is not true. Season 6 of The Rookie has not yet begun production. If filming does resume shortly, we should expect to see the second season make its début in early 2024. This release date, however, is still pending the conclusion of the SAG-AFTRA strike. The Rookie Season 6: Plot
The events of Season 6 will follow the startling conclusion of Season 5. The LAPD was the target of a series of coordinated strikes in Season 5. At the season’s end, Luke Moran was taken into custody for the string of murders he had committed. But Nolan doesn’t think the man is guilty of the charges against him.
As a result, Nolan’s case is still open when the season concludes. In Season 6, a new antagonist is unveiled, proving Nolan’s suspicions accurate. The upcoming season will most likely revolve around the main antagonist and the team’s efforts to deal with him, in addition to the numerous other cases they will be required to deal with on a daily basis.
The conclusion to Season 5 of The Rookie will also be revealed. Both Aaron Thorsen and Celina Juarez were ambushed by masked attackers, with Aaron getting shot in the back. Aaron was shown coding in a coma at the end of the season. However, his position was never disclosed. Since this is the case, we may finally find out in the premiere of the next season if the character lives or dies.
There will be a healthy dose of romance in Season 6, with the action and mystery. Fillion and Jenna Dewan’s characters, Nolan and Bailey Nune, will develop their relationship further this season.
Since the couple has been engaged for some time, a wedding may be imminent. Tim Brady and Lucy Chen’s budding romance may possibly be a major plot point this season. Fans are wondering where the sweet romance between the two will go now that they’ve confessed their affections.
The Rookie Season 6: Cast
The characters that viewers have become attached to over the course of the show’s first five seasons will return for Season 6. Nathan Fillion will be coming back to play John Nolan again. Fillion will also play Green Lantern in the upcoming Superman: Legacy film by James Gunn. But Alexi Hawley has assured fans that Fillion’s new position won’t conflict with his current one on The Rookie.
Other actors who have returned to their roles include Richard T. Jones as Wade Grey, Lisseth Chavez as Celina Juarez, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen, and Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers. Tru Valentino’s Aaron Thorsen was last seen at the conclusion of Season 5 coding after being shot, so it’s unclear if he will return.
Kristian Bruun will make an appearance in the upcoming sixth season. The actor will assume the role of the season’s unknown antagonist who orchestrated the attacks.
Despite being the brains behind the scheme, the LAPD stays in the dark regarding Bruun’s involvement. A lot of concerns about Bruun will be resolved in Season 6, including who he is, what drives him, and what he ultimately wants to accomplish.
