The First Descendant is a free-to-play sci-fi looter-shooter game in the vein of Outriders and Warframe. It is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and has photo-realistic graphics, and fast-paced, brutal combat, with a focus on construction.
Nexon Games, which created The First Descendant and is based in South Korea, continues to provide more details about the game as we approach the cross-platform open test, when you may finally try it for yourself. But first, here’s all you need to know about The First Descendant to get excited, including its release date, story, available characters, gameplay, and more.
The First Descendant Release Date And Platforms
Because Nexon games typically release a few months after the game’s open beta, the First Descendant release date is expected to be at the end of February 2024.
Nexon has yet to establish a release date or even a timeframe for the game. The game’s open beta test, on the other hand, began on September 19, 2023, hinting that the release date isn’t too far away. Nonetheless, we may assume that the game will be released shortly because Nvidia tweeted about the game’s new video.

MapleStory Evolution was released one month after a closed beta test. Meanwhile, in August 2022, KartRider Drift held a cross-platform beta, only to be released four months later. If Nexon stays on track, The First Descendant might be released between one and five months from now.
Characters And The First Descendant’s Story

It is your duty as a Descendant to safeguard Ingris from a hostile group known as Vulgus, whose leader has been creating havoc throughout the region. You take on the role of one of the thirteen Descendants, each with their own set of skills, talents, and fighting style.
These characters are:
- Lepic
- Ultimate Lepic
- Ajax
- Vanessa
- Jayber
- Sharen
- Gley

- Bunny
- Freyna
During the Extended Xbox Games Showcase 2023, Nexon revealed three new characters who will be available in the cross beta. These are their names:
- Ultimate Viessa
- Kyle
- Valby
Gameplay Of The First Descendant
The First Descendant, as previously said, is a third-person looter shooter in which you face extraterrestrial foes. Traversal is an important aspect of the game, as you can travel Ingris with a grappling hook.
Massive boss raids can be completed alone or with three other players. The boss’s battles are focused on identifying and exploiting the enemy’s weak points.
Each character has a unique playstyle as well as a collection of active and passive skills. For example, one of the characters, Valby, may employ water elemental attacks, but another, Ultimate Viessa, can fly about the battlefield using magnetic defenses.
