In March 2023, Scream 6 will bring Ghostface back to the big screen, and production on that film could begin as soon as this month. This year’s excellent requel Scream brought back the same creative team for a new Scream movie in February 2022, and the release date was set for March 2022.
Scream creator Kevin Williamson serves as an executive producer along with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett as the film’s producers as well as James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick as the script’s co-writers.
Ghostface was unleashed on an unsuspecting group of teenagers in the fifth film, with the original trio of Sidney, Dewey, and Gale attempting to save them all. A standalone story, yes, but that doesn’t rule out its influence on the sequel.
When discussing what Scream 6 might look like and what you need to know about it, we must first discuss some major spoilers for Scream (2022)
Scream 6 release date: When is Scream 6 out in cinemas?
Scream 6 has been confirmed for release on March 31, 2023, and according to Deadline, the sixth film will begin production in the summer of 2022.
When Courteney Cox announced her return to the series in March 2022, she also revealed that production would begin in June 2022. She explained, “I just got the script yesterday.” “I haven’t had a chance to read it yet, but I’m eager to do so.”
The fifth movie was filmed in September-November 2020 and was released in January 2022, so everything should be set for that March 2023 release.
Scream 6 cast: Who could be back for Scream 6?
Scream 6’s cast has yet to be officially announced, but we can speculate about who we might see again now that we know the creative team is returning. Compared to other Scream movies, the fifth one has a lot more characters alive than you’d eCox has already said she will return as Gale Weathers, while Campbell said she had been approached about a return but wanted to wait to read the script before making a final decision on her return. Dewey Riley, the character played by David Arquette in the fifth film, was brutally murdered by Ghostface.
Even Arquette thinks he’s out of the running. “It was a challenge. Because it’s been running for so long, it had a profound effect on my life “he elaborated. Neither Dewey nor Marley Shelton’s Judy Hicks, played by Dylan Minnette, made it out of the new Scream movie unscathed.
There was also a death toll for Sonia Ammar’s Liv McKenzie as well as Kyle Gallner’s Vince Schneider, as well as Jack Quaid’s Richie Kirsch and Mikey Madison’s Amber Freeman, both of whom were later revealed to be Ghostface.
Melissa Barrera’s Sam Carpenter, Jenna Ortega’s Tara Carpenter, Jasmin Savoy Brown’s Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Mason Gooding’s Chad Meeks-Martin all made it out of the carnage unscathed. Chad was supposed to be killed off in the fifth film, but Gooding proved to be too likeable to be snuffed out of existence.
“We were awestruck by his performance. “Well we can’t kill Chad,” they said as soon as Chad logged on. Mason must appear in the remaining films. Wow, what an incredible human being this is! I think it would be insane for us to kill someone with this much charisma “Bettinelli-Olpin went on to explain
Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis, who is revealed to be Sam’s father, makes a surprise appearance in the new film. Despite her hallucinations, he is dead and cannot appear in the new film, but that doesn’t rule it out. While Roger Jackson will return to voice Ghostface, we may see Heather Matarazzo return as Martha Meeks after a brief cameo in the new film. Roger Jackson returns as Ghostface.
Additionally, Scream confirms that Hayden Panettiere’s Kirby Reed made it out of Scream 4 unscathed after a fleeting appearance in the previous film. If there’s a sequel, could we see a return of the fan favourite? Nothing should ever be ruled out.
Drew Barrymore, Matthew Lillard, and Jamie Kennedy all made guest appearances in the new film, but not as their Scream characters Casey, Stu, and Randy, who must surely be dead by now, right?
Scream 6 plot: What could Scream 6 be about?
As previously stated, the new Scream does not set itself up for a sequel in any way, much like the previous films. However, the new film appears to place Sam and Tara Carpenter as the franchise’s new central characters, especially with Sam’s connection to the original film as Billy’s daughter.
To be a target like Sidney was for the original trilogy, she’d have to have the ability to adapt. This approach was thankfully maintained in Scream, which avoided the obvious twist of turning Sam into a serial killer like her father.
“To us, it seemed as if she had finally come to terms with the fact that Billy was a part of her. And even though he’ll always be a part of her, she must now carry on without him “Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, the film’s co-director explained this to Fandom.
That’s why we decided to remove the scene where she was still taking her medication at the end of the movie so that it would feel like she had finally come to terms with the fact that Billy is part of her identity rather than a relic of her past.
In addition, co-director Tyler Gillett said: “Almost everyone has a traumatic event in their past that has shaped their personality positively or negatively. We found it fascinating and gratifying to tell a story about a character who reclaims some of her power, owns it, and learns to be okay with it.”
With both Sidney and Gale set to return, there has to be a reason why they’re drawn back into the carnage.
Bettinelli-Olpin doesn’t see the fifth film as a handover to the newcomers from the original cast. “As we add new members to our family, we begin to think of it as such. What’s right for the next one is what’s right for us “Fandom was the first to hear about it.
“If we could work with Neve and Courteney again, we would. The whole time, they were just so wonderful. It was a truly wonderful experience. So it’s still up in the air, but I’m hoping they’ll be a part of it if there is one.”
The only thing we can say with certainty about the plot right now is that any future film will poke fun at popular trends in horror and sci-fi. As toxic fandom and “requels” were the targets of Scream, we’ll have to wait and see what the film’s new target is.
