Line of Duty season 6 is over after another series of twists and turns. Ted Hastings’ AC-12 chased after H and OCG while fighting for the lives of his unit, but what’s next?
Will the BBC give Hastings and his team of detectives who fight corruption a seventh season? If the success of series 6 is any indication, it should be a sure thing, especially since Line of Duty had a lot more viewers than Game of Thrones, but there’s more going on here.
Since it started airing in 2012, the BBC drama has kept people’s attention and become an event on TV in the UK and around the world. Line of Duty is often named one of the best British TV shows of all time. It has also grown its audience by more than a factor of three, attracting not only millions of viewers but also the best British TV actors. Almost nothing makes sense about the idea that it could just end.
With ratings for funded channels a little less of a concern, the BBC will be aware of the popularity of the flagship programme and will consider any opportunity to prolong it. Is there going to be a 7th series? AC-12’s plans are laid out in this report.
Will Line of Duty Season 7 Happen?
It’s possible that the seventh series of Line of Duty will not be produced due to the pandemic that affected so many television and film projects in the first half of 2020 and 2021. According to the long-time showrunner, who spoke to Radio Times, “We have high hopes that this will be the case (another series).
The problem, though, is that we’re having to plan around the fact that these things are no longer certain.” The BBC can use the 15 million viewers that turned into the first episode of series 6 as a hint of the hit it still has if ratings are a factor, presuming the practicalities work out. For the time being, the verdict is still out. Even though the finale caused some controversy, a sizable audience watched it and would likely invest in a sequel that reverses the series’ ending.
Line Of Duty Season 7 Story
According to Ted Hastings, the only thing that matters in Line of Duty is bent coppers. Anti-Corruption investigations in the police force can continue even if the phantom of H (or the “fourth guy”) and the Caddy continue to hold influence over everything.
A major question mark hangs over the series finale due to Ted’s plight, but there are hints that the H reveal was not as full as it first appeared. Many questions remain, not the least of which is how Ian Buckells’ plot came to fruition, as well as the other corrupt cops who aided him along the way. Osbourne’s suppression of police corruption in general also merits further investigation.
When it comes to police misconduct in the headlines, this may have been more relevant than ever before, even though there was some displeasure with the finale. If it’s confirmed that Line of Duty will return for a seventh season, it will continue its tradition of tearing down the institution. The tale doesn’t have to continue in this way, because AC-12 can look at different aspects of police corruption without necessarily connecting them to the primary plot line to do so.
Line Of Duty Season 7 Cast
Although Ted is no longer in command of the show, the majority of the original cast is expected to remain for the seventh season. It would be a mistake for the BBC to let the stars of its most popular show depart without doing everything in their power to keep them around.
There have been public statements from Adrian Dunbar (Hastings), Vicky McClure (Kate), and Martin Compson (Steve) that they would like Line of Duty to not finish “like this” because of COVID-19. Even after Harry Potter star, Kelly Macdonald took on the lead role of Acting Detective Sergeant Jo Davidson, there are still many British drama actors who could join the cast as guest star. Season 6’s appearance of James Nesbitt proved that the show is capable of surprising audiences with guest star appearances.
Line Of Duty Season 7 Release Date
According to Line of Duty’s two-year release plan and ignoring the possible delays COVID may still bring to any future productions in the UK, the show’s seventh series is expected to premiere in the Spring of 2023. Only the third and fourth seasons were released within a year of each other, and even that seems doubtful given the pandemic’s aftereffects.
