The rules of game-changers are the focus of this Mastery Session, and we become our standards in many ways. If you are surrounded by B players or ordinary performance, and that is your benchmark, your thinking will work according to the standard set by those around you.
We do become our social orbit, and if you are the standard internally, if you want to be a game-changer in my field, if you want to be BIW, the best there ever was, if you want to be the Van Gogh and Rembrandt of technology, or whatever field you play in, then your behaviour will always match your internal identity and inner standards.
Your expectations are crucial. Your expectations for friendships. Your expectations for the quality of your job. Your language’s requirements. The nutritional guidelines that you feed your body.
Your love life’s benchmarks. Your mindset’s expectations. The standards by which you conduct yourself in the world. Whatever you do, my invitation to you is to take your game to the level of world-class, which is all about being a game-changer.
Now, I should caution you, and I don’t like that phrase because language is so strong, and caution is a word that is a little theatrical, but I want to warn you that leaving the herd, the mob, and perhaps the cult of mediocrity to become a game-changer is a very disruptive act.
You endanger the masses around you, which is why every visionary is mocked first before becoming respected, as I’m sure you’ve experienced.
“I want to take my health to a whole new level of world-class,” you say, “or I want to take my art to a whole new level of world-class,” or maybe you’re lifting your game financially, and then you share it with those you love or your friends, and they laugh at you.
How many times have we given up on a dream due to ridicule from those around us? All I’m saying is that when you’re laughed at and mocked, and when people don’t grasp your next level of world-class, it simply means you’ve got a wonderful dream, and it just means you’re on your way to becoming a game-changer.
What are some of the strategies? I’m going to walk you through a few critical techniques or game-changing rules. The first is straightforward:
1 – No idea works unless you dare to do the work.
“Well, I went to a course or I joined an online membership programme or I read a book, but my life didn’t change,” and I want to say to them with great respect, “Your life could’ve changed but you didn’t do the effort required to make the change happen.
” It’s almost as if an athlete says, “I want to win a gold medal at the next Olympics,” but then goes on to declare, “I went to the gym for four days and didn’t receive the medal.”
The truth is that an idea is just the beginning of the journey to where you want to go. Just keep in mind that getting something fantastic to work is all about execution.
When you think of Steve Jobs or Elon Musk, Nelson Mandela or Mother Teresa, Da Vinci or Tesla, all of these people had a vision and then outworked everyone around them to carry it out until the product was completed.
It’s not just about execution. It’s all about grit. Remember the concept of grit from past mastery sessions: when you’re knocked down, do you give up or keep going? Every game-changer has practically outlasted everyone else. Do you keep going when you’re full of self-doubt, as you will be on your way to world-class?
The first tip is to realise that no plan will work unless you have the fortitude to put it into action. It all comes down to having a high level of execution intelligence. Great leaders and game-changers have a proclivity for completing tasks.
It’s similar to a muscle. The more you accomplish, the more you desire to accomplish. You begin to gain amazing momentum. Internal confidence is felt by the momentum. The confidence wants you to make even more progress, so it becomes a never-ending cycle of incredible execution.
To have the results of a game-changer, you need to start thinking and behaving like a game-changer.
That involves thinking like a game-changer, filling your mind with the best books, ideas, and discussions, and acting in ways that the majority of people don’t. Again, if you want to get results that only a few people achieve, you must begin doing activities that only a few people do. Turn the television off.
Delete the sceptics. Start producing instead of chatting. Improve your diet. Run longer distances. Shift your emphasis away from what isn’t working and toward what is. You truly want to install a whole new set of mindsets and rituals that just a few people are practising.
3 – You will receive from the world who you become.
The world is preoccupied with achieving goals. The world is fascinated with appearances, but the door to success, in my opinion, swings inward rather than outward. The best way to live a game-changing life, live a world-class lifestyle and impact the world is to change yourself. Who we become is shaped by our experiences throughout life.
Last night, I was having a conversation with my mother about creating goals and having big ambitions. External success is nice, but the true value of external success is who you had to become as a person and what you had to construct in terms of your character, as well as the capacities and talents you had to polish to achieve external success.
That is the true meaning of success. Let’s imagine you want to develop a wonderful business or a fantastic family life. That’s fantastic, but who were you supposed to become? What challenges did you have to face? What skills did you have to develop to reach world-class status? That is the true value, and even if you lose your exterior success, you may preserve your internal gold for the rest of your life.
I simply want you to play with the idea that you get who you are from life, and the single best move you can do to be a game-changer is to work on your character, emotional architecture, attitude, and spiritual life, and then you’ll become this unstoppable force of nature.
You transform into a force of nature, radiating energy, inspiration, and self-confidence that draws everyone around you into your ambition. That is why John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. did not fully realise their vision.
They used their strength to make others around them feel the dream and do the job, which is exactly what leadership is all about. I hope you give what I’ve just spoken some serious thought.
4 – A distraction addiction is the death of creative production.
You can’t be both distracted and a game-changer at the same time. When you look around and see how most people are acting, you will notice that they are completely distracted.
Just watch folks driving these days; they’re driving and acting like this. They are still texting and checking because they are addicted to their distraction, even though several countries have laws prohibiting it. People are gazing at you and then at their gadgets when they’re having a discussion.
I’ve never witnessed so many people making errors. You’re in a hotel and place an order, but when it arrives, it’s incorrect. Why? People have become hooked on distraction and have lost their ability to focus.
What I’m arguing is that if you truly want to change the game, you should concentrate on your critical few. Concentrate on the few tasks that will make a difference. Concentrate on the few activities that will enable you to have an outstanding personal life. Turn becoming a minimalist. Every game-changer is obsessed with a small number of things.
5 – The thing that you’re most afraid to do is the thing that is the most valuable to do.
I’m going to say it again because becoming a game-changer is so critical to your success. The thing you’re most afraid of is also the most valuable thing you can accomplish. Your anxieties are nothing more than progress dressed up as a wolf.
I truly want you to think about this: your growth is made where your greatest fears are found. Walk towards the things that scare you, and the more you do it, the more confident you will become. The more you stand amid your deepest fears, the more freedom you will find. I know it’s counter-intuitive to do that, and being a game-changer is counter-intuitive, but I’ve done it in my own life.
I can’t tell you how often I do the thing that terrifies me, and yeah, I’m uncomfortable a lot of the time. I have to admit that I’m confused or terrified a lot of the time, and it’s messy because being a game-changer is a complicated process, but the payout is simple. Almost every day, I improve.
Every day, I get more courageous. Going to areas that scare you is bravery training, and the more you do it, the stronger and freer you become. Every single thing you’re frightened of is something you’ve given the power to, and every time you stand in the fire of your fears, you reclaim your freedom, and isn’t that an incredible way to live? Even if it’s a mess, even if it’s difficult, even if you’re bewildered at times.
6 – Education is an inoculation against disruption.
You must be in the rooms where game changers play if you truly want to be a game-changer. Every quarter, you should attend conferences, study the books that game-changers read, and engage in the programmes because education is vaccination against disruption. Examine the world’s political, economic, and environmental situations.
Consider the current state of business. We’ve never been in such a state of chaos, and believe me, it’s just going to get worse. The following decades will be messy and terrifying for the victim.
The coming decades will be motivating and enlightening for game-changers, and if you truly want to be a game-changer, invest in your study. The guy who has the greatest knowledge wins.
You want to invest in learning more than anyone who does what you do in the history of what you do because the person who knows the most can see around corners.
Because of your level of knowledge and information, you want to be able to see around corners. The seventh rule, which I believe will be a game-changer for you, is simply this.
7 – The seduction of safety is always more dangerous than the illusion of uncertainty.
You see, the world around us sells us a bill of goods to cling to the familiar, to live within our comfort zones, to never leave your community of safety, so don’t read new books, don’t have new conversations, don’t reach too high in your job, don’t have new conversations with interesting people you’ve always wanted to meet, don’t set new goals, and so on.
Stay within your circle of safety and understanding. That, in my opinion, is a recipe for ageing. That’s a surefire way to die young. Many people die at the age of 20 and are buried at the age of 90. Do not fall victim to this. That is something I hope never happens to you.
What I’m saying is that the allure of safety is more perilous than the discomfort you’ll experience when you step out into the unknown blue ocean. It’s all about living in the blue ocean of the unknown, experimenting with new ideas, and expanding your internal capacities if you want to be a game-changer. “The best way to increase your boundaries is to go to the edge of your limits,” remarked C.S. Lewis.
